I went on my annual girls trip a few weeks ago. You can read about our 2016 trip here and our 2015 trip here. I’m lucky to have such a great group of friends and we look forward to this trip each year.
Several of the trails around Gatlinburg that we’ve been wanting to hike were closed due to damage from the wildfires last year. So instead of twiddling our thumbs, we decided to head to Bryson City, NC which is about an hour and a half from Gatlinburg.
Bryson City was the cutest town! There were so many cute shops. You can ride the train. You can wander around.
Or you can hike the Deep Creek Trail and see three different waterfalls.
This is the Indian Creek Falls
This is the Tom Branch Waterfall.
This is the Jurney Whank Falls. I couldn’t get a great view of it because there was a couple sitting in the ideal spot. It’s also a small falls. But don’t let the .2 mile hike fool you! It is .2 miles but it is straight UP. We were amazed that our thighs held out!
This was a really pretty hike. I’m glad we did it. It’s not too strenuous but a slight challenge in places.
After that we went to nowhere. More specifically we went down the “Road to Nowhere.” Seriously, this is a real place! You can read the details here.
The road ends and there is a big, dark tunnel. It doesn’t look that far but once you are inside you think it’s never going to end.
I shared this photo on my Instagram.
I hate dark places. And dark places that are covered in graffiti and incredibly creepy? Yeah, I wasn’t a total fan.
It’s hard to get a good picture inside because it’s so dark. I didn’t have a tripod and while I could have used my backpack as one, I wasn’t spending any more time in there than I needed to. So ergo a blurry picture.
We ate lunch at a restaurant called Derailed. It was really yummy. We tried cinnamon rolls and cowboy cookies at LaDolce Bakery. Oh my! Those were to die for! We tried going by after our hike to bring some home, but they were sold out.
I was able to find a geocache in downtown Bryson City. It took me forever. I almost gave up!
This was a view from nearby. Isn’t it breathtaking!?
