My husband was out of town. I needed something to do with the kids. I just couldn’t “sit” around all day and let them watch tv “again.” When I first pitched the hike idea, all I heard was a chorus of “Nooooo’s.” I pitched it Friday night before bedtime. That was my mistake.
The next morning, I pitched it again. They were more on board this time.
The drive was pretty and interesting enough that I didn’t hear too many “Are we there yet’s” before reaching our destination.
We went searching for a geocache. It took a few minutes, but we finally found it. There was a turtle very nearby- for a minute I thought maybe he was guarding it. He wasn’t, but the cache was close by!
One funny part… throughout our hike we kept hearing these weird sounds. My daughter said, “It sounds like a cow is drowning.” We weren’t anywhere near cows (we thought) so we continued on. Near the end of our hike, we were sitting by the edge of the lake. All of a sudden we saw a herd of cows across the water. She wasn’t totally wrong after all. (Although we hope none of them were drowning!)
Another funny moment near the end of the hike. I kept telling the kids we were “almost to the end.” Of course I said this over and over. Finally my youngest said, “Are you lying?” I burst out laughing. Luckily, we really were near the end!
Kids… too tired to walk any further bu the moment they spotted a playground they were all over it.
It was a fun a very pretty day. I love getting out into nature and exploring this beautiful world.
